DEM stands for Digital Enterpise Management, and is hopefully what I will graduate as a specialist from, in mid-2012. Since I get the question "What the (insert your intensifier here) is DEM?!" question too often from friends, family and future employees, I decided to dedicate this section to (try to) answer that once and for all!
Digital Enterprise management is a specialist program within the Communication Culture and Information Technology department at the University of Toronto - Mississauga campus. Basically, we learn all the implications of doing business in the new world; in a world that everything and everyone is connected through the Internet. Our courses range all the way from communication theories and design to network development (no, not networking with people, actual LAN/ WAN or WIfi networks). We learn to critically analyze and pay attention to all the details that come with living and working in a digital community.
From my personal experience with the course, I like to think of DEM graduates as Jacks of All trades. We are a powerfull new generation of entrepreneurs and managers that knows how to be successful in the reality we are currently experiencing. We keep our minds open and embrace technology's possibilities to support business initiative while being conscientious of its limitations and hazards. Therefore, DEM graduates are prepared to work in any kind of industry.
